If you’ve had a chance to look at the Microsoft Word 2010 Home ribbon, you may have noticed a new button in the Font group. The Text Effects button allows you to apply some pretty cool effects to any text in your Word 2010 document. Let’s take a look.
You can apply a number of effects to any text in the document.
- Select the text you want to format.
- Click the Text Effects drop down.
- Select one of the presets, or apply individual effects (I’m partial to the Reflection effect).
The really cool thing about this is that you can continue to edit the text as you normally would.
One thing I should note about this. If you open the document in Word 2007, the text effects are permanently removed. You can avoid this by creating custom styles for any text effects you’ve applied. If you open the document in 2007, you won’t see the effects, but if you reopen it in 2010, they’ll be there. See Reuse styles across Microsoft Word 2007 documents. Yes, it’s written for Word 2007, but the procedure hasn’t changed in Word 2010.

Other text effect can be found under CTRL + D shortcut (Font Format).
This offers strikethrough text, small caps but also flashing borders etc. Just explore it.

I have microsoft word 2007. I need to use text effects but I’m not sure how? Does windows 2010 only display this? Someone please help!!! lol

Felicia, text effects like the ones in the post are in Word 2010. In Word 2007, you can try a couple of approaches. Word Art gives you a lot of options. Click the Insert tab and select a type of Word Art to get going.
Another option is to use PowerPoint 2007 to create the text effects, then copy it over to Word. In PowerPoint,from the Insert tab, select Text Box. Draw one, insert your text and apply the formatting you want. Select the text box and copy it, switch to Word and Paste Special… (on the Paste drop down). Paste it in one of the picture formats i.e. Picture (Enhanced Metafile).
If you need to edit the text, you’d have to go back to PowerPoint and edit there. Then copy and paste special again.

The effect that is missing from 2007 and 2010 is “title”
This option would capitalize the first letter in each word highlighted. Like “All Caps” you could toggle this on and off.

Would anybody know why the text effects button is missing inside word 2010?
Would compatibility mode make this button disappear?

The Text effects button is located in the Font group of the Home ribbon. If you’re in compatibility mode, it will be disabled. You can convert a document to the 2010 format by Clicking File, selecting Info on the left side and hitting the Convert button.

But when I went on word 2007 it had a place for effects like sparkles and shimmers etc.
Does anyone know how to get those on Microsoft Office Word 2010?

Unfortunately, to blink the text in Word 2010 is not just a click away. You can still do it but you must create a macro in VBA to be able to do that. I am including a link to the article that does show what the macro must include. I have not used this macro personally, so please read the article carefully.

There isn’t sparking text or marching ants effect in 2010. But if a document was created in an earlier version then you will still have it available in THAt document.
Similarly with Word Art – you cannot fill it with a picture in 2010 – unless the document was previously created in a version which supported picture fill.

In exercise 8-2 of the Microsoft Oficial Academic Course for Microsoft Word 2010, MOS Exam 77-881, copyright 2012, I am called, on page 228, to, in the Text group, click the Text Effects button (OK, I found that on the Home tab), select Transform (not there as an option), then select Cascade Up (ditto). Where are these commands?

The effect that I’m looking in Word 2010 is the ability to create flashing text so that it looks like a flashing sign to the reader. This is a great option to have when creating documents that draws the reader to important information they need to read first. Does anyone know if Word 201 has this capability as I’ve not been able to find it.

To remove an effect from text:
Select the text that you want to remove an effect from.
On the Home tab, in the Font group, click Clear Formatting.

Hi, any idea why there is no “transform” option on my text effects? I have the text box selected and have options for outline, reflection, shadow and glow, but no transform. Where did it go?
